Description
We are looking for someone to
Inspect construction of public works capital improvement projects, private land development projects, subdivisions, and encroachments.
Grade check inspections for sewer water and storm drains, streets, curb, sidewalk, basegrade, and pavement.
Inspect materials, workmanship, and safety of projects.
Develop written reports, daily project diaries, prepare and verify monthly progress payments, assist project engineer in preparing and substantiating contract change orders, and keep files.
Qualifications we're looking for
Knowledge of:
City and state construction standards
All facets of underground pipelines and conduit; base rock, asphalt concrete, portland cement concrete, and earthwork
Safety regulations
Surveying and engineering terms
Standard specifications for public works construction
Ability to:
Interact effectively with the public and employees, read plans and specifications, and effectively communicate with general contractors and engineers.
Education & Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying;
Typical education would include a high school diploma or equivalent and two years advanced training in engineering, engineering technology, the building trades, or a related field.
Typical experience would include three years of progressively responsible experience in public works construction inspection.
Special Requirements:
Possession of California Department of Health Services Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 or the ability to acquire one within one year of appointment is desirable.
Possession of Qualified Storm Water Practitioner (QSP) certification or the ability to acquire one within one year of appointment is desirable.
Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.

Final appointment is contingent upon:
Positive past employment references
Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test
Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating “Honorable Discharge” from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
