Automation Engineer Job Description*
As the Sr.
Automation Engineer you will create automated systems for use in a production and manufacturing environment.
You will collaborate with departmental and corporate leadership to determine existing automation and electrical capabilities and future opportunities, creating detailed project designs for automation and electrical projects that support our business objectives.
*Automation Engineer Duties and Responsibilities*
● Design and implement automated systems for use in diverse manufacturing and production environments
● Interface with clients as technical expert throughout sales, design, and implementation process as required
● Lead collaborative discussions between leadership and key stakeholders to determine automation capabilities and goals
● Create detailed road maps to guide automation projects from conception to final implementation
● Support existing automation technology with component and process upgrades
● Install and Integrate SCADA systems
● Collaborate with the design team to create quality product drawings that comply with industry standards and best practices
● Development of documentation such as P&ID's, Cause and Effect, Controls Narratives, Line Diagrams, etc.
● Documentation, safety, process improvement, commissioning, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), implementation of ISA standards.
* Perform electrical calculations for large electrical equipment including generators, motors, power Distribution Centers, VFD's, and other equipment
* Lead, guide, and develop the automation team, including but not limited to mentoring, setting goals, supporting career development, and providing ongoing training
* Provide oversight of projects, monitor progress, manage resources, and maintain timelines
* Oversee technicians and external contractors during system development, fabrication, installation, and start-up activities
* Contribute to departmental strategy, and provide tactical management guidance as a key liaison between Manufacturing, Quality and Management in relation to process automation and information technology systems
* Support and advance departmental and interdepartmental strategic objectives
* Build and maintain a highly motivated team of engineers and technicians to ensure optimum technical support for manufacturing
* Develop project design- scope- cost estimates and timelines for automation systems that aid in transformation automation projects.
* Document work and automation code/logic so that others can understand and contribute.
*Requirements and Qualifications*
● Electrical Engineering degree
● 5 Years experience
● Proficient with Autocad 2023 or equivalent
● Experience with Allen Bradley and Ignition
● Proficient with developing, revising, and improving P&ID, PID loop diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Controls Narratives, and Cause and Effect
● Experience with the design and implementation of automated systems, especially as related to manufacturing
● Programming - Proficient with both Ladder Logic and Structured Text
● Superb communication and organizational skills
● Familiarity with both Low and High Voltage environments
● Preferred working knowledge or experience with electrical and safety codes for non-hazardous and hazardous environments
● Location: On Site in Redding, CA preferred, but Remote candidates will be considered if willing to travel to Redding as needed.
● Some travel to job sites throughout the US is required.
*Networking Knowledge Required*
● Familiarity with server virtualization
● Solid Understanding of Networking Fundamentals in reference to OSI 7 Layer Model.
Must demonstrate knowledge of Layers 1-4
● Working knowledge of industrial cyber security best practices
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.
00 - $130,000.
