JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director/Program Director, the Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Fellow are prepared to perform in an expanded role in the delivery of primary health care by receiving mentoring and a didactic program to increase skills.
The 24-month position prepares the NP/PA Fellow to perform the duties of a primary care provider in a Federally Qualified Health Center with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention through patient education and counseling.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct clinical care to patients at the health center in a full family practice scope.
Work with mentoring staff to increase skills in clinical care, use of tools for decision support.
Attend didactic sessions to increase knowledge of clinical areas, FQHC organizational skills, leadership, EMR training.
Collaborate effectively with clinical team members in preventive care, treatment of acute and chronic illness.
Seek consultation as described in NP/PA protocol.
Other duties as assigned.
Participates in ongoing training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Fluency in English.
Able to review medical history, assess mental health, complete physical exam.
Comfortable with use of Electronic Medical Record.
Demonstrates knowledge of compliance issues within the community clinic environment
Demonstrates a willingness to report any incident that is unusual or incompatible with accepted clinic procedures.
Always maintains confidentiality of patients by complying with HIPAA policies.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to be sensitive with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program (Master’s level minimum) or making transition from specialty practice only to family practice/community medicine.
Must have obtained a license to practice as a PA or NP within the state of California before the start of program.
Current CPR or BLS and maintain current.
For PA’s:
PAs must have registered with the Department of Justice and have obtained a DEA number before the start of the program.
PA’s must be NCCPA Certified and must attend, within 3 months of starting the program, a qualified controlled substance education course.
For NP’s: Furnishing Nurse Practitioner License (FNP)
Submitted application for the FNP and complete the “Nurse Practitioner Advanced Pharmacology Course.

Must currently have their FNP and to apply for their DEA.
