This role plays an integral part of a small engineering team focused on designing high-quality, industry-leading, and cost-effective surveying and construction equipment.
This role requires the ability to work independently or collaboratively, taking projects from inception to production.
The successful candidate will use their strong mechanical/engineering skills to create aesthetically pleasing designs that look visually pleasing to the eye, that will excite and make someone want to grab and feel the product.
Primary Responsibilities • Develop products and enhance existing ones by studying customer requirements, researching manufacturing and assembly methods, and consolidating information into viable products.
• Troubleshoot and propose solutions to customer issues in the field and on the production line.
• Prepare technical documentation such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, and test reports.
• Design and build prototypes for proof of concept and design approval.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions, creatively contributing to mechanical and aesthetic solutions.
• Write installation instructions and provide ongoing technical information and feedback to the marketing department as needed.
• Attend Engineering meetings, keeping management informed on project progress.
• Perform other duties as required Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong written and communication skills.
• Proficient in creating and modifying Solidworks models, assemblies, and drawings.
• Experience working with suppliers to explore new technologies or resolve issues.
• Familiarity with designing parts and assemblies for manufacturing, including bent sheet metal parts, aluminum extrusions, die castings, welded parts, over-molding, CNC machining, composites, and plastic injection molding.
• Comfortable working for periods of time in production, inspection, and the machine shop for building test units.
• Able to collaborate with production to hand off new products and investigate product issues or improvements.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience • Experience creating aesthetically pleasing designs.
• Strong mechanical/engineering skills to create functional prototypes.
• Comfortable working in a fluid environment where project priorities shift often.
• Familiarity with the surveying and construction equipment industry.
