United Way of Northern California (UWNC), based in Redding, is part of the world’s largest philanthropic network and the globe’s largest non-governmental funder of social services.
UWNC fights for the health, education, and financial stability of all residents in its nine-county territory and is there for residents in times of crisis.
UWNC aims to expand operations fully throughout the region.
Services include but are not limited to, the 211 human services helpline; crisis and disaster relief and recovery; financial stability programs; activities that address homelessness; and public health education and information.
*Job Summary* The Fund Development Specialist works closely with the Chief Development Officer and the development and marketing team to support the organization’s annual fundraising goal.
The Development Specialist will be a high-energy, go-getter, with a “can-do” attitude.
This person will develop and manage a portfolio of donors and will be instrumental in the creation and management of a donor pipeline-building process, as well as the implementation of new practices around the use of the donor management system.
The Development Specialist will collaborate with the marketing team to develop communications and content for donors and participate in the creation and execution of relevant fundraising events.
This individual should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and should have a task-oriented attitude.
The Development Specialist will enjoy identifying and tackling new opportunities and is motivated to reach annual retention and donation goals.
*Principal Job Responsibilities* ● Consistently prioritize meeting revenue goals by ensuring execution of plans for revenue generation, special event fundraising, mission outreach, and awareness.
● Cultivate, steward, and advance relationships with partners, donors, volunteers, businesses, and other key constituents within the market.
● Use data to understand donor behavior and giving capacity, throughout the donor lifecycle.
● Ensure precise and punctual data collection, input, and processing of donor and gift information in the donor management system.
● In collaboration with the Marketing team, assist in the creation of compelling donor communication campaigns for multiple donor segments.
● Analyze the effectiveness of communication and adapt strategy accordingly.
● Track pledges and gifts, verifying their receipt and reconciling pledge receivables, balances, and adjust as necessary.
● Stay current with best practices in fundraising and implement efficiencies and processes accordingly.
● Assist in planning and executing donor appreciation and fundraising events.
● Demonstrate a commitment to and enthusiasm for United Way of California’s mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of all Northern California residents, and to be there for the community during times of crisis.
Support and demonstrate UWNC’s values of equity and inclusiveness.
● Leverage and relate the mission into effective, sustained relationships and successful projects in pursuit of the fundraising goal.
● Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information and data.
● Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications* ● Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a dedication to detail, clarity, and accuracy.
● Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a track record of success in growing relationships that lead to revenue generation, with preferred experience either in sales or fundraising.
● Excellent organization and time management skills.
● Strong presentation skills.
Comfortable speaking in public.
● Successful collaborative skills working with a variety of groups (including volunteers).
● Self-Starter.
Proven track record of achieving results.
● Strong problem-solving skills.
● Adaptable; can pivot and adjust to change quickly.
● Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
● Bilingual/Multilingual a plus.
● Comfortable working with and for people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
● Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable and insured transportation.
● Can lift up to 15 pounds; can work comfortably on a keyboard through an eight-hour shift.
