The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Fish Habitat Assistant working out of the Red Bluff office.
Performs tasks involved in the fabrication and construction of fish screens, ladders, and other fish habitat improvement structures through demonstration of a working knowledge of steel, concrete, and wood construction techniques.
Coordinates and assists in the installation and maintenance of fish screens, ladders, and other fish habitat improvement structures and performs difficult repairs, modifications, and adjustments.
Works on habitat improvement projects such as barrier removal, livestock exclusionary fencing, or development and construction of stream and lake structures which improve spawning and rearing conditions for fish.

Working Conditions This position will involve work in the shop, field, and office in a variety of weather conditions.
Overtime and travel will be required on occasion.
This position requires the possession of a valid commercial Class A Driver’s License with air brake endorsement or possession of a valid Class C Driver's License with the ability to obtain a commercial Class A Driver’s License with air brake endorsement within one year of appointment.
The use of personal protective equipment is required (e.
g.
, eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, etc.
) to perform all aspects of the essential job functions previously described in a safe manner.
The incumbent is required to use respiratory protection equipment while painting with oil-based paints or during other activities producing noxious/hazardous fumes.
As such, Cal/OSHA requires that the incumbent be annually medically cleared to be fit-tested for respiratory protection equipment.
Additionally, the incumbent is required to participate annually in the CDFW Respirator Protection Program.
The incumbent is required to wear a prescribed uniform when engaging with the public, conducting field work, and during site visits.
